Our services, in detail

Auto electrical repairs & fault finding

The electrical gremlins nobody else can find — traced, explained and fixed properly.

Star Auto Electrics is the workshop other mechanics call on for auto electrical fault finding — one customer was told by his own mechanic, 'Get the best, go to Star Auto.' From warning lights and mystery battery drain to wiring faults on European cars ('never simple wiring diagrams', as that same review notes), Dave traces the actual fault before anything gets replaced, explains it in plain English, and charges for the time it took — not the parts cannon. The workshop at 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville handles all makes and models, with European electrical work a repeated theme in reviews. Drivers come in from Gladesville, Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove and Putney. Call (02) 9809 5444 and describe the symptom — you'll get a straight answer on what it might be and when to bring it in.

Tow bar wiring, electric brakes & Anderson plugs

Full tow setups wired properly — Anderson plugs, brake controllers, camera monitors.

Getting the van or trailer wired properly is a job you want done once, by someone who does it every week. Star Auto Electrics wires complete towing setups at its Gladesville workshop — Anderson plugs, electric brake controllers, camera monitors, scan gauges and the lot. One recent customer had a Ford wired up for towing with the full setup and praised both the workmanship and the price in his review. Everything is cable-managed neatly and tested before you leave, so the first time you find out something's wrong isn't on the highway with a van behind you. Based at 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville, and handy to Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove and Drummoyne. Call (02) 9809 5444 to book the car in — most tow wiring jobs are same-day.

Batteries, alternators & starter motors

No-start mornings fixed fast — batteries, alternators and starters tested and replaced on the spot.

When the car won't start, the answer is usually one of three things — battery, alternator or starter motor — and guessing wrong costs you money. Star Auto Electrics tests the charging and starting system properly first, then replaces only what's actually failed. The Gladesville workshop is a long-time battery stockist (the Lion Batteries board has been on the shopfront for years), and reviews tell the story: an alternator replaced for a fair price after an 'outrageous quote' elsewhere; a starter motor swapped quickly after a tow-in; a DC-DC and lithium setup fixed by finding the undersized wire the original installer used. Call (02) 9809 5444 — if you can get the car to 45 Buffalo Road, the team will take it from there.

  • Test first — replace only what's failed
  • Batteries stocked at the workshop
  • Alternators and starters fitted fast
  • Dual-battery and DC-DC setups repaired
  • Fair pricing confirmed across reviews

Dashcams, driving lights & accessories

Dashcams, driving lights and accessories installed with cabling so neat reviewers mention it.

A dashcam or a set of driving lights is only as good as the install — loose wiring and lazy fuse taps are how electrical problems start. Star Auto Electrics installs dashcams, driving lights and accessories at 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville, with the kind of cable management customers photograph and praise: one reviewer noted David 'helped me connect the power from fuse box to my dashcam… all the cables are managed very well.' Another drove away thrilled with a set of driving lights fitted the same week. Bring your own gear or ask for a recommendation — either way the job gets done neatly, fused properly and priced fairly. Serving Gladesville, Ryde, Lane Cove, Hunters Hill and Putney. Call (02) 9809 5444 to book.

  • Dashcams hardwired from the fuse box
  • Driving lights supplied or fitted
  • Cable management reviewers praise by name

Car air conditioning

Air con faults and electrical gremlins in the system sorted — before summer does its worst.

Car air conditioning problems are often electrical problems — compressors, clutches, pressure switches, fans and control wiring all live in Dave's home turf. Star Auto Electrics has offered auto air conditioning alongside its electrical work for years (it's on the directory service list going back decades), and the workshop handles both the electrical side of A/C faults and the general service of the system. If your air con has stopped blowing cold, cuts out, or only works when it feels like it, bring it to 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville for a proper diagnosis rather than a guess-and-regas. You'll get a straight answer and a price before work starts. Handy to Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove and Drummoyne — call (02) 9809 5444.

  • Electrical A/C faults a specialty
  • Proper diagnosis before regas or parts

Power windows, seats & central locking

Windows, seats and locks fixed properly — sometimes without a single new part.

A window stuck down in the rain or a seat that won't move is the kind of job some workshops love to quote big on. Star Auto Electrics approaches it the other way: find the actual fault, repair what's repairable, and only replace what's genuinely dead. One Audi owner watched Dave fix an electric seat problem without ordering any new parts — the dealer had quoted replacement at 'a much higher price point'. Another customer had a starter motor and a window fix done quickly at 'a competitive rate' after a tow-in. Power windows, electric seats, central locking, mirrors and switches are all everyday jobs at 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville. Call (02) 9809 5444 and describe what's stopped working — you'll get an honest steer over the phone.

  • Repair-first approach saves parts bills
  • Audi seat repair praised over dealer quote
  • Windows, seats, locks, mirrors, switches
  • Quick turnaround on common faults
  • Honest phone advice before you come in

Common questions

Where exactly is the workshop?

We're at 45 Buffalo Road, Gladesville NSW 2111 — look for the red STAR lettering on the white brick shopfront and the Lion Batteries board. There's parking out front. If you're coming from Ryde, Hunters Hill, Lane Cove or Drummoyne, it's a few minutes off Victoria Road. Call (02) 9809 5444 if you need directions.

Do you work on European cars?

Yes — European wiring is some of our most-praised work. One customer was sent here by his own mechanic with 'Euro vehicles never have simple wiring diagrams' — and the fault was fixed quickly. Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and the rest are all welcome at the Buffalo Road workshop.

Can you wire up my tow setup?

Yes — tow bar wiring, Anderson plugs, electric brake controllers, camera monitors and scan gauges are regular jobs. Most tow wiring is done same-day at the Gladesville workshop, cable-managed neatly and tested before you leave. Call (02) 9809 5444 to book the car in.

How much will it cost?

You'll know before work starts — fair pricing is the most common theme across our 91 Google reviews. We diagnose first, quote clearly, and where a part can be properly repaired instead of replaced, we'll tell you. Customers regularly compare the bill favourably to dealer quotes.

Can you install a dashcam or driving lights I've already bought?

Yes — customer-supplied gear is welcome. Dashcams get hardwired from the fuse box with cabling reviewers describe as managed 'very well', and driving lights are fused and mounted properly. Bring it in or call (02) 9809 5444 first and we'll confirm the job and timing.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday 7:30 am to 12:00 pm. Closed Sundays. The phone — (02) 9809 5444 — is the quickest way to reach us during trading hours.
